Ellie and I are Vegan for the animals! The needless suffering that animals go through at factory farms, stockyards, slaughterhouses and private facilities. This suffering must stop. Please join me, Ellie and the Gentle Barn Team in choosing a more compassionate lifestyle.
This is very close to my heart because I am the guy who goes into all of these horrific places and rescues the animals. Let me just say that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS HUMANE SLAUGHTER! I have seen what is called humane and first hand, it's not. If you have never been on the killing floor of a slaughterhouse, you cannot understand the level of fear and suffering that animals go through all day every day.
As Vegans, we take a stand and draw a line and say, that animals are our friends and are not here for us to do with as we wish. They are here to live their lives, just like you and me. We recognize that animals are the same inside and just look different. We know, just like you know about your children or families, that they desire the same things that we do; Love, Family, Friendship, Home all of the same things we want and need and most importantly they want to live!
Factory farms are just what it sounds like, they are factories. They are not places for anyone to live. I will not be graphically describing what it is like for the animals in factory farms, but I want you to know that it is not what the industry wants you to think. There are no happy cows at dairy farms and they don't want you to take their milk or their babies.
Just recently, I was approached by an ice cream company, who said that they were looking for a place to shoot a video of their actor little girl, licking an ice cream cone, next to a black and white dairy cow, so that she could thank the cow for her milk, so that she could enjoy her ice cream. It is all marketing and dairy is the product. Veal is baby cows taken away from their moms at 1 day old, btw.
Chickens don't get the space or freedom that they sell you on packaging or tv. There is no such thing as free range, it is the definition of the size of a cage or a warehouse, not a grass field.
Pigs, goats, sheep, turkeys, geese, emu, ducks, fish, they all suffer and their suffering is destroying us and our beautiful planet.
The only way for a dairy farmer to make money is to take all of the milk from a cow, who just gave birth and to keep it going, much of the time, must use hormones and other medications to prolong production of the milk. Cows, goats and sheep are mammals just like we are and produce their milk for their babies to drink. So what happens to the babies, they are taken away at 1-2 hours old and are put into crates for 8 weeks to become veal or lamb.
