Let's face it, our bodies just do better on a cleaner diet, free from animal products and with aerobic movement. Doctors acknowledge now that adopting a plant based diet is the most effective way to avoid and/or heal your body from conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. There is so much research available now, but it comes down to knowledge, understanding and willingness to change our ways. In this section I am not going to spend time on stats and proof that this is true. I will leave that up to other sites that focus on that and you can find links to websites, books, movies and podcasts on our Resources page. I want to stay pretty basic here and talk more about our personal experiences.
Once you have had the chance to dive in and try all of the amazing Vegan food alternatives, you will find that those tastes aren't as important anymore. Sure you'll want to have them here and there, but it won't be as much of a necessity. I used to really crave processed burgers for example and now really like a simple homemade black bean burger. I used to really crave processed cheese alternatives and now absolutely love homemade nut and soy cheeses.
Again, finding the delicate balance for yourself is everything. It is so funny to me to see the effort people make on finding the right foods for their pets. People say, "Jay, my dog seems to have an allergy to the food he is eating, it's creating a rash and hotspot." and at the same time, the person I am talking about seemed to have a skin irritation like eczema. I asked about it and she said, "I think I am allergic to something I am eating, but I'm not sure what it is. It usually happens worse in the morning after breakfast." I asked what she has for breakfast and it included 2% Cows milk. She said that she couldn't understand what the problem would be, but that it had gone on for years and she had tried many different cereals and nothing ever helped. I asked if she had ever tried a different type of milk, like almond or soy and she said no and went back to talking about her pets food allergy issues. After we spoke about her pet, I did get the chance to suggest cutting out the milk and for her to try an alternative and she said she would.
The answers are right in front of us if we are willing to hear them!
Plant-based food has never been more main stream and more available than it is today. No matter what the reason is that you choose a Plant-Based diet, there are a couple of things to know. First is just because it is "Plant-Based" doesn't mean it is healthy. It is very easy to become a junk food Vegan. That is what I was. Second is that if you aren't a gourmet chef now, don't assume that you'll be one now. Make sure you set yourself up for success and plan meals that you can make in the time and abilities that you have. There are so many easy, quick and delicious recipes, as well as more challenging ones if you choose.
